Areas of work

I work primarily with trauma and complex trauma, grief and loss, divorce processes, depression, fear and anxiety disorders, obsessions, panic disorder, phobias, separation anxiety and exam anxiety. In couples work, the recurring themes are preparation for marriage, the aftermath of infidelity, persistent conflict and emotional disconnection.

Education and academic background

I completed my BSc in Psychology at Üsküdar University with honours. While continuing with an MSc in Clinical Psychology at the same university, I completed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training and the supervision process with psychiatrist Dr. Mehmet Zihni Sungur of the CBT Association.

During my master's studies I worked with adult clients at the Üsküdar University Psychological Counselling Unit. For more than five years I have worked as a clinician with families, children, adolescents and adults across a wide range of presentations.

EMDR therapy and accreditation

I completed Level 1 and Level 2 EMDR training and supervision at the Institute of Behavioural Sciences and obtained the EMDR practitioner certificate. After completing individual supervision with EMDR Europe Accredited Consultant Şenel Karaman and counsellor Halil İbrahim Duran, I became an EMDR Europe Accredited Therapist.

I also completed G-TEP and “Working with Adult Attachment in EMDR” training with senior trainer Asena Yursever.

Gottman Couples Therapy

I completed Level 1 and Level 2 Gottman Method Couples Therapy training with Filiz Kaya Ataklı, MSc, and Özge Altan Aytun, PhD — two of the first certified Gottman couple therapists in Türkiye, both trained by John and Julie Gottman at The Gottman Institute and approved by the Institute as Master Trainer and Consultant.

Field and volunteer work

I am an active member of the Trauma Recovery Group, a non-profit group of professionals affiliated with the EMDR Association that provides voluntary support after traumatic events. Following the earthquakes of 6 February 2023 centred on Kahramanmaraş and affecting ten provinces, I worked as a volunteer therapist with the group — both in field teams and online. That work gave me direct experience of intervening with recent trauma.

Where and how I work

I see clients face to face in Samsun. Alongside that, I work online with clients across all 81 provinces of Türkiye and with Turkish communities in Europe and the United States. Sessions last 50 minutes and are conducted entirely in Turkish.
